During my third co-op at Optum on the Fusion team I lead a new campaign in which I designed infographics on relevant topics. The goal was to increase our presence on social media and throughout Optum. The copy was written by a member of the team and then I would work with them to understand the content and design a one-pager that was easily comprehensible by a wide audience.

Creating Your Best Work with Draft, Refine, Optimize

By Courtney LaPointe

Process can have a strong place in creativity. In nearly every project, we utilize the process of Draft, Refine, Optimize. From a design perspective, this process applies to design requests but it also works for pieces of writing, presentations, and almost any other type of deliverable. Draft, Refine, Optimize has proven extremely useful to me for producing exceptional work that satisfies both the client’s needs as well as staying true to my design principles. Below are stages you can guide yourself through and leverage as a framework as you work on your next project or deliverable…

“I had the absolute pleasure of managing Courtney during her time as a Northeastern co-op at Optum. Courtney's work ethic, positive attitude, and natural leadership skills blew me away. She actively seeks out feedback and immediately implements it. During our time together, she developed impressive client management skills, balancing requests with the right amount of deeper questioning and leaning into her expertise as a designer. She brings authenticity, curiosity, and passion to her work and I highly recommend Courtney to any future employer.”
